The wrap that nearly was...

Just a matter of days before the big match, Rangers FC contacted Impact Signs to wrap the bus for the returning team.

This proved something of a dilemma for the company since wrapping is not something they do. Fortunately, MD Glen Houston, who was desperately keen to be involved in the project, remembered a sales call he had received from acknowledged vehicle wrap experts, Totally Dynamic and, after some fevered discussion with Adam Sharpe, Totally Dynamic’s Cumbernauld centre owner, was able to tell Rangers – “Yes, we can do it”.

Adam realised right away that such a big job with such a tight timescale – a parade through Glasgow and on to Ibrox Park on the Thursday afternoon after the match - could only be tackled with the right resources and within minutes was on the telephone to his Totally Dynamic colleagues down south to request assistance. Shortly afterwards, two teams of Totally Dynamic technicians from London and Leeds/Bradford were boarding planes to Glasgow, determined to work together with their Cumbernauld-based colleagues to meet the deadline.

Adam said: “The bus was initially green, cream and orange, so we had to take lots of detailed measurements very rapidly to ensure it could be wholly wrapped in light blue for what we hoped would be the Rangers’ victory parade. Our friends at Impact Signs set about producing the logos and text, which we then applied on top of the blue wrap and not long before the deadline, the job was done”.

Unfortunately, no-one could have predicted the sad loss of Tommy Burns – a leading light in the Scottish football world and out of respect for this great man, Rangers decided not to go ahead with the parade.
