Totally Dynamic creates a world of colour at the Alton Towers Resort

The Alton Towers Resort, home to the UK ’s best-loved theme park, has transformed its invaluable transportation system with the help of Totally Dynamic

We have given a creative facelift to the Staffordshire Resort’s iconic monorail system, which whisks millions of guests between the theme park’s main entrance and two themed hotels.

In a remarkable logistical operation, we covered each of the eight trains with an individually custom-designed theme. Each train has nine carriages so, in total, an astonishing 72 carriages were covered on both the interior and exterior in exciting new designs.

Adrian Rope, managing director of Totally Dynamic, said: “This was one of the toughest, most challenging – but at the same time, most satisfying – projects we have ever taken on. Completing it so successfully and in such good time was a huge boost for the whole team.”

Adrian explained that the monorail – a favourite of families at the Alton Towers Resort for more than 15 years – presented some interesting challenges which required extensive technical skills.

He said: “The trains and the carriages had become a little tired over the years, so the preparation of the bodywork – which is vital for the wrap to adhere properly to the coach – had to be absolutely perfect. Repainting parts of some of the carriages was also involved.

“In addition, the wrap had to go right round the carriages, across windows and over recessed doors, to create one flowing image. There is no doubt that it was a tricky operation.”

Totally Dynamic worked within the monorail’s scheduled repair and maintenance operation, so that there was no unnecessary disruption to the holidaymakers’ enjoyment of their visit.

We were chosen to carry out this prestigious project by International AV installation and design company Sarner, which devised the themes, working closely with the Marketing Department at the Alton Towers Resort. Sarner, which has designed and built many attractions around the world, also designed the intricate artwork for each of the revamped trains and has worked on various projects within the Merlin Entertainments Group.
