Safety checklist for summer road trips

Summertime is all about getting out and about on the road. Whether you’re travelling to see friends and family for fun days out, setting off on a long-drive to the airport for that much anticipated holiday or jumping in the car to discover some place new.

But in all the excitement and hurry, it can be easy to forget some simple safety checks to ensure your journey goes off without a hitch.

We want you all to have a fantastic summer. And most importantly, stay safe. So we’ve put together this handy checklist to help you and your vehicle get prepared before pulling away.

Don’t worry, it won’t take long. And you’ll be setting off on your summer road-trip before you know it, mind at ease that you and your car are ready for the adventure ahead.

Checks and preparation before setting off

  • Check wipers for signs of wear and tear. Buy replacement blades if needed.
  • Top up your screen wash
  • Check your oil and coolant levels and tyre pressure. Remember to check the spare tyre too.
  • Make sure all internal and external lights are working. Replace bulbs where required.
  • Practice changing the spare wheel if you’re not sure how
  • Research your journey. Know where the service stations and rest points are along the way.
  • Get a good night’s sleep before a long-journey. Never drive when tired.
