Get the winter grime off your vinyl wrap

If you’ve invested in a vehicle vinyl wrap, then it’s a clear sign that you take great pride in the appearance of your car or van, and you’ll want it to look its very best for the long-term.

And at this time of year, when the roads are wet, muddy and grimy, it’s important to keep on top of cleaning and washing your vinyl wrap, so it not only looks great, but to make sure you carefully remove any dirt that could potentially damage it too.

By taking a little bit of extra time, attention and care, your vehicle wrap be sparkling clean once again.

Washing your vinyl wrap is not complicated at all, and is actually a lot like cleaning paintwork, but there are just a few things to bear in mind before reaching for the soap and bucket.

We hope our Totally Dynamic ‘Top Tips’ for washing off the dirt and grime are useful. By following our expert advice, your car or van’s vinyl wrap will soon be restored to its former sparkling glory!

1. Hand wash only!

The most important thing to remember is that vehicle vinyl wraps must be washed by hand! Like the very finest items in your wardrobe, your vinyl wrap needs to be washed carefully by hand and with gentle care. Please don’t be tempted to take a short-cut and use a pressure washer, steam cleaning or industrial scrubbing machine.

2. Say ‘no’ to automatic car washes:

NEVER ever drive through a petrol station car wash. We can’t stress that enough! And if you take your car in for servicing or repairs, make sure the garage has it written down that your vehicle is not to go through the free car wash.

3. Weekly washes:

Clean your vinyl wrap regularly, ideally on a weekly basis. Frequent, careful cleaning will help maintain a colourful wrap and protect it too. The longer your leave dirt and bird droppings on the car, the more pressure you will need to apply to get the car clean. And it’s the pressure that has the potential to damage the wrap.

4. Use gentle, specialist products:

Make sure you choose a really gentle automotive detergent to wash your car, and a soft automotive sponge or cloth too. Investing in some specialist car-washing kit, rather than reaching for household cloths, will ensure your vehicle gets the gentle treatment it needs.

5. Check for grit:

Before you get stuck in, please check your bucket is free of any grit or stones, the last thing you want is to accidentally pick up a small sharp stone in your sponge, and scratch it all over the vinyl wrap! You can buy grit guards for buckets, which will prevent any abrasive stones or chips getting on to your sponge.

6. Rinse well:

Once you’ve shampooed the car, rinse well with lots of clean, fresh water.

7. Wipe away the streaks:

Then it’s time for a final dry by hand to remove any watermarks. Again, make sure you buy an automotive drying towel, something that’s really absorbent and soft too. Pat or wipe by hand and your vinyl wrap will be looking super-fresh once more, ready to hit the road.
